Why are the brothers in Our Brothers sent to prison?

The brothers in Our Brothers are sent to prison for possession with the intent to distribute or the criminal sale of a controlled substance in or near school grounds. These are both Class B felonies. The narrator says the boys are sentenced to two years and three months in prisons such as Wallkill, Ulster, Woodbourne, Mohawk, or Bare Hill Correctional Facility.
