What takes place in Great Expectations?

In Great Expectations, the narrator describes the relationship between the brown girls and their brothers. The girls are good, working hard in school that lead to college scholarships. The brothers cut class and talk of joining the army to attend college for free. The brothers make plans to get out of their community, but the girls naively believe them.
