In Western Epistemology, what do the girls learn at school in honors classes?

The narrator says that the girls who are placed in honors classes learn words from the Western world and wonder what the West actually is and if they are really a part of it. The girls take notes on white philosophers and read Shakespeare noticing they never read about anyone that looks like them.
