Does Wells invite us to sympathize with him?

Really there aren't any sympathetic characters in the story. Griffin in particular doesn't have a lot of favourable traits, especially after he gets his ability. The answer is no, Wells does not invite the reader to sympathise with Griffin other than he might be a representation of any man who acquired a power like this.
