Self-acceptance is the reason for Bridget's successful year. She does improve her life, but she is the same silly Bridget at the end of the book as she was in the beginning. In the beginning of the book, Bridget was constantly criticizing herself and looking for ways to change who she was. By the end of the book Bridget seems to be okay with her weight, her decisions, her family, and her behavior.
