Bridget's reaction to Daniel at the end of December is significant. She is excited to hear from him, but it is obvious that she wants to see him out of boredom and not out of obsession. When Daniel fails to turn up as promised, Bridget does not write very much about it in her journal. In the past she would have dissected the conversation with him, gone on a diet in response and gone to her friends for advice. In December she does not think much about his behavior at all.
