After Leslie's death, Jesse completely withdraws from the world in pain and shock. During this period, Paterson uses detailed imagery to portray Jesse's father in a far different way then what we would expect. Her imagery allows us to see the comapassion and love of a man for his son that we hadn't ever seen, let alone imagine existed.
