Who is Pilot from Brian's Winter?

The pilot of the plane taking Brian to Canada suffers a heart attack on route. Before dying, he quickly instructs Brian on how to fly the plane, acting as a co-pilot for hours after the attack begins. Brian doesn't put a lot of focus on the pilot's death outside of being thankful for his actions, and the fact that because of the pilot's quick thinking and instruction, he was able to survive.
