Why does Sophie think her mother would disapprove of Joseph?

Sophie's mother wants her to marry someone with a stable job and lifestyle... someone she knows will take care of her daughter. Sophie believes her mother will disapprove of Joseph because he is a musician and much older (fifteen years older).
