Who is Shenah Smolinsky from Bread Givers and what is their importance?

Shenah Smolinsky is Sara's mother. She is described as a strong woman, who is overshadowed and oppressed by her demanding husband. When Sara runs away, her actions are a direct result of her mother's refusal to stand up to her husband on behalf of her daughters. She does, however, help Sara to leave by giving her money.
