How does the author use foreshadowing in Borrower of the Night?

There is a lot of foreshadowing that takes place in the story. Tony will say that it is possible that George is broke for all he knows. At the point in the story when Tony says this, there seems no reason to suspect such a thing, but this turns out to be the motive that George has for hunting down the lost relic.
