Who is Daniel Brighton from Born at Midnight and what is their importance?

Daniel Brighton is Kylie's biological father. He was killed in the Gulf War before Kylie's birth. Daniel appears to Kylie as a ghost and explains that she can't see other ghosts because young ghost whisperers are protected against the need to deal with multiple ghosts at a time. Daniel later saves Kylie from a lion and later steps in to help her battle vampires.
