Who is Dr. Kay Scarpetta from Body of Evidence?

Dr. Kay Scarpetta is the main character and narrator of the novel, Body of Evidence. She is the hard-working and dedicated, Chief Medical Examiner in Virginia. Scarpetta is known to become personally inolved in investigating the victims she examines in the morgue.
