Who is Dr. Fielding from Body of Evidence?

Dr. Fielding works under the direction of Kay Scarpetta in the medical examiner's office. He is in charge of the initial investigation and removal of the body in murder cases. He also steps in for Scarpetta when she takes a vacation.
