Describe the events surrounding Lupito's death.

Mentally sickened veteran Lupito shoots the town sheriff. An armed manhunt pursues him to the bridge over the river exactly at the spot where he had run away and disappeared. The search lights from the bridge spot him and listen to his animal- ike cries. Wild gunshots ring into the air. His cries make the men so scared, they open fire and shoot chaotically. Antonio, crouched in the tall river grasses, watches the mortally wounded Lupito crawl in front of him up the riverbank. As he draws his last breath, Lupito utters "Bless me-."
