Bleak House

It seems curious that Dickens' characters tend to go to certain places for no apparent reason, such as Jarndyce agreeing to visit Neckett's place. In any case, a curious theme that seems to resurface is the neglect of children. Discuss your ideas about why Dickens continues to bring up this theme

Apparently in London many children were left in impoverished conditions due to their parents' inability to feed and care for them. Again, Dickens contrasts the echelons of society, where children are left fending for themselves, and people like Mr. Turvydrop involve themselves in meaningless pursuits of the appearance of wealth.
