Black Like Me depicts the journey of Caucasian journalist John Howard Griffin at the end of the 1950s as he altered his race to African American to travel the southern United States the center of extreme racial tensions and segregation. Griffin’s six week odyssey as a black man gave him firsthand knowledge of the true social position and living conditions from which African Americans were suffering and the book would go on to spark discussion around the country.
