The novel is broken into nine important sections. First, the book opens with an introduction to this particular edition of the book, where Peter explains his reasoning behind adding some additional material to the book. In this introductory section are also a map of Armenia and a family tree. These two pieces of information are vital to understanding the book, in that the family tree helps to explain each side of Peter's family, and the map of Armenia helps readers understand how much land was lost. The next seven sections are titled based on the content within the chapters these sections consist of.
