What happened to Richard when he went to buy groceries?

One evening, Richard's mother gives tells him a list and some money to do the grocery shopping. On the way, a gang of boys grab him, snatch his basket, and take the money. Afterward. his mother gives him more money, which is again stolen by the boys.
