Who is Charlene in Biloxi Blues by Neil Simon?

Charlene is Donald Carney's girlfriend and supposed fiance (she also has another boyfirend). Donald refuses to visit a prostitute because of Charlene, and yet, his indecisiveness about his relationship with Charlene is the reason she has someone else on the side.
