Is Billy in the book "Billy", by Albert Frank; portrayed as violent in the book?

In context, I would say that Billy is portrayed as "reactive" rather than violent. Billy reacts to a situation violently..... impulsively, and yet, he does not understand the result or its ramifications. This is, of course, my opinion.
