Who is Uncle Freddie Berber in Bent by Martin Sherman?

Freddie Berber is Max's homosexual uncle. When we first meet Freddie, he advocates for his nephew to marry (appearances), and keep his "boys" on the side.... and a secret. Freddie tries to convince Max that doing so will allow him to rejoin his family, as well a provide him protection from the coming purge.
