Salty is conflicted about turning in his father and testifying against him. Although he is never required to testify, he does purposely go to warn de Spain that his barn if the next target. Salty doesn't want to live his life running, and he understands what his father is doing is wrong.... he ends the cycle in the only way he knows how.... by calling out a warning and subsequently leaving.
