How does Rudy rescue Captain Winter?

Captain Winter falls into a crevasse and is unable to pull himself, as he lost his axe in the fall. Rudy makes a rope using his staff, his shirt, and his pants, after which he lies flat on his stomach holding the homemade rope and bracing himself so the man can climb out.
