Sara Tidwell from Bag of Bones is the malevolent spirit that haunts the area. She and her family settled in the area during the 1900s and were harassed because they were African American. Late one night some men gang rape her, then kill her son. She vows vengence on the generations to come, stating that they will pay with their lives and the lives of their family.
