Mattie Devore from Bag of Bones was originally Mattie Stanchfield. She married Lance, Max's grandson, and they had a little girl whom they named Kyra. When Lance dies, Max decides that he doesn't have any viable heirs to his millions and he wants to adopt Kyra away from Mattie. Mattie refuses and a legal battle of epic proportions ensues. Mattie has never lived with a lot of money. Both of her parents died when she was young, and she has worked in the same diner for years. She was only married to Lance 3 years before he died.
