Why does Michele's father not want her to date Dave?

Michele's father thinks Dave is too good and that threatens him. Rockstone Community Church had once been the biggest church in Oklahoma City, but it had been in decline until Dave came. The congregation refers to Dave as "The Music Man." Michele's father didn't like that Dave's music takes up more and more of the service. Since he believes that a service shouldn't last longer than an hour, his own sermons get shorter and shorter.
