Baby Teeth has a stark, realistic style that conveys the often-surreal subject matter with a combination of detailed description and everyday word choice. When writing from the perspective of the seven-year-old Hanna, Stage uses a simple, age-appropriate vocabulary, and also modulates the third-person narrator’s voice with imaginative imagery and unconventional phrasing to reflect her experience of the world. Alex and Suzette are referred to as Daddy and Mommy, and ordinary objects take on magical importance.
