Who is St. Gundred from Avalon?

St. Gundred is mentioned in the first chapter when Merewyn is visiting St. Gundred's Well in the hopes of procuring a cure for her mother. It is said that St. Gundred lived next to the well, had a close relationship with angels, and an affinity for the sickly. The well was well known for its cures.
