What is the theme in Ask the Dust by John Fante?

One major theme in the novel is that of prejudice. Most all of the characters face prejudice of one kind or another. Derrogatory comments (racial slurs) are prevalent. Because Los Angeles is such a diverse community.... race and prejudice come to the forefront.
