What is the author's style in Ask the Dust by John Fante?

John Fante's experimental writing style was highly unusual at the time the novel was written. Arturo Bandini's self-effacing commentary about his experiences is a refreshing and enlightening read, with each sentence holding meaning beyond itself. Fante's writing style is simple and engrossing to the point that the reader might just forget they are reading a novel. Fante's style makes the reader feel as if they are observing a movie inside Arturo's brain..... not merely reading a book.
