Demonax tells Elisha that he has read Elisha's monograph. He refuses to accept Elisha as a student because he does not think he has anything to teach Elisha. Demonax does direct Elisha to someone who he thinks can be of help to him. Demonax recommends Poleman, who Elisha finds to be more of a librarian than a teacher. Poleman guides his studies by suggesting certain works, and Elisha continues his quest.
