Why does Rosalind compare Orlando's love for her to that of a snail?

Orlando finally shows up and apologizes for missing their previous lesson. Rosalind angrily tells Orlando that a man in love is never late, but a snail has to carry his home on his back and therefore has an excuse for tardiness.
