How is the sprite's way of life unexpected?

When one thinks of a sprite or fairy, one often thinks of happy creatures or perhaps feisty ones. However, this particular sprite is an alcoholic. It is a strange characteristic to see in a sprite. Plus, she seems to be living alone in the human realm. One wonders why she is alone and why she is living amongst humans. These characteristics go against the normal ideas of fairies and how they live.
