How does Artemis's age conflict with his task?

Most twelve-year-old children would not be on a quest that involves criminal intent. Artemis has traveled to a far off city in search of a book. Granted, he has his bodyguard with him, but where are his parents? The guard is even carrying a massive amount of weaponry with him: not suited for a twelve year old. Once he meets the sprite, he manipulates her with alcohol. Again, in conflict with what is expected of a twelve year old.
