Describe symbolism in Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery

Anne's hair starts out as a symbol low self-esteem. Anne hates her red hair thinking it makes her look "different" and out of place. Later on in the book, when Anne develops a sense of self-awareness and confidence, she embraces her red hair as beautiful and part of her unique identity.
