What is Anne's relationship with her mother? with her father? How does her attitude toward her parents seem different from, or typical of, the ways young people today relate to their parents?
(Glencoe Edition) The Diary of Anne Frank, the play
Anne's relationship with her mother is tense. Anne's generation are trying more things, allowing departures from old customs, and her mother doesn't feel many of these departures are wise or appropriate. In many ways, nothing has changed from then to now. Teens still test their parents; parents don't fully understand the appeal of some activities (video gaming, social media for example).
