Who is Saufe, Softa, later El Nazred, the Diver from Anecdotes of Destiny ; and, Ehrengard and what is their importance?

Saufe (Softa) is the young man whose greatest desire to fly like the angels. The elders of the city conspire against him by subverting him with the dancer Thusmu, and he ends up leaving the city. He later returns to the story as a diver. In both cases, he has a magical ability to solve problems.
