The “Deportee (Plane Wreck at Los Gatos Canyon)” song, written by folk music legend Woody Guthrie and sung by Pete Seeger, Joan Baenz and others, is one of the most important symbols in the book. Through this song, the author first learns about the incident. All They Will Call You can be read as a response and correction to Guthrie’s lament in his poem that, “All they will call you is/ Deportee.”
