What is the author's tone in The Analects by Confucius?

The Analects has an objective tone by an all-knowing, objective observer who records the actions, conversations and quoted opinions and beliefs of Confucius and his disciples. Liberal use of the first person "I" is quoted by the observer. Situations, ideas and things are noted in short sayings, statements of fact or opinion. There is no discussion about feeling, sentiment or emotion with any of the characters.
