The author highlights the sudden appearance of silver in Mireille’s hair, which represents trauma and her acceptance of that trauma. When Mireille sees a portion of her hair has turned silver, a physical reaction to the trauma she suffered, she does not color that portion of her hair because she knows that she will never be able to completely heal from the trauma that caused it.
