For what purpose did Aaliya read Hannah's journals in the novel, An Unnecessary Woman?

Aaliya used Hannah's journals as a way to try to determine why Hannah had decided to kill herself. Because Hannah had stopped writing in her journals a few weeks before her death, Aaliya never found for sure why Hannah had died.
