What happens on Charis and Gabriel's honeymoon?

On Charis and Gabriel's honeymoon, they can't quite get sex right, which upsets Charis. On the fourth day, Gabriel is reading a French newspaper. He finds out that the war has started and they return to England, even though there is ten days left on their honeymoon.
