What is the theme in Among the Free by Margaret Peterson Haddix?

One of the main themes in the novel, Among the Free, is that of trust, specifically learning who is trustworthy. Over the course of the novel, Luke embarks upon many relationships.... not all of them genuine. He has a difficult task in front of him.
