One major theme in the nove is coming of age. This theme is illustrated over the course of the novel, as we see Morwenna grow and change both physically and emotionally. Emotionally, Morwenna must come to terms with new feelings, as well as learn to cope with disappointments and past tragedy. Morwenna must also learn to embrace her physical changes, which include becoming a young woman, and the new feelings that accompany changing hormones.
