How does the author use foreshadowing in Among Others?

One example of foreshadowing in the novel, Among Others, is the confrontational letters and spectral appearances of Liz (Morwenna's mother) over the course of the novel. Each of Liz's letters, as well as her appearances, foreshadow an eventual showdown between Morwenna and her mother.
