What form of communication is used most often on Point Central in the novel, Ambassador of the Shadows?

Most of the communication on Point Central is done through monitors, and these are symbolic of the separation that naturally exists between people of different races. Colonel Diol cannot image leaving Earth's cell to have face-to-face conversations with other races.
