Amal visits the burnt village of Hazarabad unintentionally when Nabila tells her it features a market with books. As Amal approaches the village’s charred remnants, she connects it with the village from Fozia Auntie’s story about Jawad Sahib’s capacity for vengeance. Abandoned homes and shops lay in shambles around Amal as she stands in what remains of Hazarabad, and she cries for the destruction of a village so much like her own. Jawad burnt the village because its people decided to stop paying their debts in an act of solidarity against Jawad.
