Nabay Chak is the name of Amal’s village. The Khan family acts as landlords for Amal’s small community of friendly but impoverished neighbors. Villagers in Nabay Chak lack access to modern technology and inventions, and their mentalities remains rooted in the past. Women possess few rights or liberties and are considered male property. Many adults in Nabay Chak cannot read or write but refuse to attend the literacy center because the Khans fund it.
