The village market acts as a social hub where the member of the community convene to purchase all their necessities. Amal visits the market with her younger sisters to collect groceries for her family. At Shaukat’s shop, Amal learns the consequences of borrowing money from the Khans when Shaukat alludes to the cost of enlisting Jawad Sahib to help fund his store’s new roof. After Amal visits the market alone, Jawad hits her with his car. Amal’s unaccommodating reaction to Jawad’s demand for her pomegranate earns Amal her position of servitude.
